Here's how to make the most of your the AUT services you pay for.

Gym

No one can underestimate the benefits of the physical exercises on one’s health and wellbeing. So AUT Gym (located on all three campuses) has lots to offer students. The gym’s have great facilities of cardio, weight training and group exercise. AUT students can take the advantage of the reduced price AUT gym membership offers. The gym also offers consultation for new members, personal training programs and nutritional services. With open arms, professional personal trainers and fitness instructors are there to assist and support their members.

Many AUT students enjoy the vibe of group classes, enjoying the cardio machine, or eagerly train hard on weight lifting equipment. Some students developed an addicted relationship with the gym. Once they feel the health benefits shaking their body, they get in love with it and becoming hard to abandon it.

Library

AUT library designed to support students during their studying journey. The library has lots of offer to their students. There are many comfortable studying spaces for students on each level. Students can search the library catalogue to find out materials related to their courses like books, journals, audio, video, online resources, etc. Students can book a study space inside the library for group meetings.

The library also offers workshops and tutorials to support students study and research. These workshops are: Referencing workshops, writing workshops, writing clubs, workshops for research students, learning advisory numeracy workshops, oral presentation workshops and postgraduate workshops. The library website has valuable resources for all AUT students. For instance, Academic writing and study skills, Special collections, for researchers, TUWHERA open access publishing are just some of the available recourses they offer.

If students need any help inside the library, the friendly library staff with a big smile always there to assist students in their inquiries. Many AUT students take the advantage of the library spaces to study in a quiet and neat environment, for some students, library is like their second home, they spend most of their time inside the library either enjoying a quiet study time or studying with their classmates.

AUT clubs

One of the greatest benefits AUT students can get out of their studying journey is joining a club. Students can get involved and be an active member of a club or a group while they are studying. Some of the benefits of joining a club are enjoying a hobby, meeting people with similar interests, expanding their network, supporting their study, gaining valuable experience, developing soft skills such as communication and interpersonal skills. Students also have the opportunity to invent a new club and be the leader of that club. It’s a great place for AUT students to enhance and enjoy their university experience. Many AUT students already members of different clubs, they have fun, make friends and expand their experience, why not joining a club or a group to discover a new window in the university life.

Employability and career services

Employability and Careers centre aims to help AUT students to consider their career options and develop the skills they need to stand out to employers and become a highly employable graduate. Each campus has an employability lab which offers various support to students such as: CV improvement, Job research, interview techniques, employment related workshops, networking skills, making contact with employers looking for students for work experience or voluntary work, talking to a career specialist about career direction or study programme.

AUT employability and career services has a valuable online tool called “CareerHub” where students can make appointments, book to attend events, look for jobs, or access online resources to help with their CV, job search or interview techniques.

Chinese Centre

The AUT Chinese Centre is under the umbrella of the Office of International Relations and Development and Student Services. The primary aim of the Chinese Centre is to provide pastoral and academic assistance for students from the China region. A further important role of the centre is to provide assistance and support to the Office of International Relations and Development in receiving visitors and contributing to AUT's links with and understanding of the Chinese world, including informing New Zealanders on various aspects of Chinese culture, social development and political and economic development.

AUT Chinese Students has a range of services including: Student support, workshops and events, AUT and Chinese world, AUT Chinese Student Association.

Childcare centres

AUT has childcare centres on two campuses: at the North Campus on the city’s North Shore, and at the City Campus in central Auckland. There are excellent staff and facilities at both centres, providing a safe and happy environment to care for your child. AUT Early Childhood Centre cares for children (from 6 months to 5 years) of students and staff on AUT’s City Campus. This licensed, community based childcare centre is open plan and mixed age, with a separate indoor area for infants and toddlers. AUT Early Childhood Centre caters for 40 children; 12 of whom can be under 2 years old.

Full-time AUT students can apply for a childcare subsidy to help with the cost of childcare. For more information, contact the Student Hub.

Medical centres on campus

AUT medical centres servicing students at City and North campuses. These are staffed by doctors and nurses who provide a range of medical services. The South Campus offers nursing services only.

Routine appointments are free for domestic students who enrolled with AUT medical centre. Some of the services includes: General healthcare, Sexual health and contraception, Emergency contraceptive pill (free for female students), Minor surgery, Maternity care and pregnancy testing, Travel health, Vaccinations and immune screening.

Counselling and mental health support

The Student Mental Health and Wellbeing offers free counselling sessions and mental health support to AUT students delivered by professional and experienced counsellors and mental health advisors. They are well trained to support AUT students if they are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression or any other personal or mental health related issue.

The AUT Student Hub is the one place to go for help on each campus. The Student Hub gives access to a range of services and support to help students succeed at AUT. Student Hub Advisors help students with their study or personal needs, and will either resolve their need on the spot, or put them in touch with the right person on campus. The trained and professional staff will follow up to ensure they get the support they need. Student Hub services include: Advice (academic or personal), Employability and careers, ID cards and graduation, Fees and financial support, Learning support, Services for the diverse student communities – international, disability, LGBTI.
