AUT Vice-Chancellor Derek McCormack will retire next March when his contract ends.
McCormack has been in the role since 2004 and had been part of the university’s leadership team since its establishment in 2000. He will leave the university when his contract expires on March 31 next year.
In an email to staff, he said it will be difficult to leave the university but it is time to move on.
“It has been my work and passion for more than 20 years.
“But I am also looking forward to stepping aside from the many responsibilities of the position that have occupied so much of my life and turning to explore new opportunities.
AUT Chancellor Rob Campbell has acknowledged McCormack’s time in the role, saying in a statement that it has seen the university “grown from strength to strength”.
AUT’s governing body, the AUT Council, will begin an international search for a new Vice-Chancellor.
